Whitesmith Wrought Iron Spoon Whether a large spoon or a small ladle, it is definitely a work of art in hand wrought iron. It's the work of a Whitesmith, a very skilled blacksmith who shows his skill in design, crafting and detailed "finishing". One might call this piece a work of sculpture with the finely wrought incised decoration on the handle and the decorative element at the bottom of the rat-tail handle where it attaches to the bowl. Most whitesmithing results in a polished steel appearance. It is still subject to rust if exposed to such conditions. That is what changed this to a darker patina with some small amounts of rust. C. 15th or 16th century. Length is 17 inches and the bowl is 3" in diameter. $485.00 F09B18845 Questions? Ask the Ferret!
