 19th Century Riverboat Painting

Presented here, a very charming and well done 19th Century American School Oil on Canvas of a Nautical Scene depicting a Paddle Wheel Steamboat on the Kennebec River with several Sailboats in the distance on a lazy late summer afternoon.  There is a little inlet to the right with a sailboat in front of the penninsula with a lovely country estate in the background. The Riverboat plys its way through the river with several sailboats off in the distance. The painting is extremely well done, especially the water and the clouds which are not easy accomplishments.  A very familiar scene in the area where the Kennebec River meets the sea in Casco Bay and probably a favorite subject for artists. While it is not a lighthouse, it definitely is "Maine". There is something about boats and the water that is much loved by artists. It measures 9" x 12-1/2" (sight) and 12" x 17-1/2' framed in its period lemon gold frame.
