 Apple Green Feather Basket

This is one of the most gorgeous baskets we have had the pleasure to offer!  It is a 19th Century woven splint Feather Basket in Apple Green Paint.  It is in exceptional condition.  Paint typically strengthens and protects the splints from brittleness and from splitting and the paint has served this wonderful basket very well. It stands 20-1/2" high and is 15" in diameter at the widest part.  It is a rare form, especially in paint.  The painted surface is nice and dry, just the way we like it.  They just don't come any better than this.

Merganser Hen from the collection of R. H. Richardson, Claridge, Maryland, collector and author/editor of the book Chesapeake Bay Decoys: the men who made and used them. 16-1/2 inches long and 5-1/3 inches high. Wonderful sculptural form that captures the "essence" of the bird.  A good old working decoy that is solid bodied, structurally sound with doweled head and painted eyes. Wonderful Folk Art carving that is forceful and dynamic. For the decoy collector or the collector of Folk art this is one beautiful bird!
