Peacock Design Hooked Rug

More than a century of use imparts a polished surface to this rug and the colors acquire a softness that only the passing of time (and many feet) can achieve.  This rug is most likely of Pennsylvania German origin - the peacock being a traditional favorite.  It's wonderfully folky and hooked rugs depicting animals and birds are much in demand by collectors today.  Silk and wool on burlap, this rug, circa 4th quarter of the 19th Century is in overall very fine condition . . . A wonderfully graphic example of this genre` of American Folk Art. Mounted and ready to hang.
Size is:  26" wide x 45" long.
