Hand Wrought Hearth Gridiron Presented here, an exceptional hand wrought Gridiron/hearth broiler. When broiling meat or fish, the hot juices and fat released were needed in the home for soap, candles, grease lamps, etc. A Gridiron with it's two shorter feet (the ones closest to the handle) creates a slope down to the diamond cutouts, allowing the fat to drain off to be collected to be used for another purpose Not only is the artistry exceptional but also the blacksmith's skill. The handle alone is a work of art! Circa 1750-1800, or earlier. 19" long x 9-1/2" wide. Condition is excellent. $1750.00 P09J2508017 Questions? Ask the Ferret!
