Rush Light /Candle on Turned Base

Presented here, a unique 18th century Candle/Rush Lighting Device - Blacksmith hand wrought iron combined with a beautifully turned wood vase-shaped base.  Residual dry red paint creates a great surface.  The base is hardwood . . . the weight giving great stability.  The result is a fine piece of American Folk Art with utility. It stands 11-3/4" high and the base is 6-1/2" in diameter and 5" high.  There is an age split on one side that is mentioned for the sake of accuracy.  All else is fine and anyone who understands what happens over the years to wood as it shrinks should not be bothered by this but should expect it as a testimony to the age. My guess for wood is Walnut or other Fruit Wood.  In over 40 years of collecting lighting, this is my all-around favorite.  I think it is the "whimsicality" and effort that went into its creation that I appreciate.  Does it "talk to you"?
