  Elizabeth Lyons, 1823

Worked by Elizabeth Lyons in 1823 this sampler virtually has no space where it is not filled with needlework.  It contains an alphabet and progression of numbers as well as numerous initials.  The bottom part of the sampler contains many delightful images including a house but the charming vase of flowers worked sideways is a real showstopper.  She obviously wanted that vase on her sampler and fit it in anyway she could!  A wonderfully folky touch.  The sampler is in very fine overall condition with only very minor loss to the floss in a couple of places, barely noticeable.  It measures 11 inches x 10 inches (sight) and 12-3/4 " x 13-1/2" overall.  It is conservation mounted into a beveled burl frame with gold liner.
