World class piece of American Folk Art . . . Vermont.  Best dry paint, exceptional patina...great attitude and forceful presence.

The realistically carved horse is fitted with leather harness. The leather tack is mint, carved wood ears are mint ... open mouth with carved teeth; tiny feather in woman's hat and she has her hands in a muff. Just Wonderful! (28-inches by 14-inches high by 6-inches deep.) 100% original.

This carving relates to a group of similar pieces from Vermont which include the Catholic Funeral procession from the Herbert W. Hemphill, Jr. Collection now in the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Collection and illustrated in American Folk Sculpture, pp 196-197 by Bishop. Also relates to two pieces sold recently at Northeast Auction in the Egan Collection.
