Small South East Pennsylvania highly decorated Hanging Slide Lid Box . . . hand carved and profusely decorated on all four sides and the chamfered sliding lid. Wonderful relief carving of a distelfink, a traditional Pennsylvania Dutch folk art motif of a bird symbolizing good luck and happiness. Made of American Chestnut, it is 8 1/4" tall and 4 1/2" wide.
It is in remarkably fine condition with very minor wear to the paint, mostly on the edge of the panel surrounding the bird. Nice dry surface with vibrant color.
