Mid 19th C. Teething Rattle Presented here, a mid-19th Century Teething Rattle made of bone and ivory. The rattle is comprised of 7 individual bone and ivory pieces that are tied together with a pink ribbon. Each of the pieces are carved to represent a tool. There is a mallet, a vice grip type tool, a saw, a wood rasp, a knife, a thing I can't identify, and a fish. While we occasionally encounter a single piece here or there, we have never found the whole rattle intact, until now. The individual pieces vary in length from 3 1/2" to 4" each. The carving is very well done, and realistic. A very special item and RARE! R2L01529 5241 Questions? Ask the Ferret!
