Painted Bandbox, c. 1860-80

This looks like a wallpaper bandbox, and yes, it is constructed the same way with the laced construction.  The difference is that this one is PAINTED!  It is simply fabulous and while it shows some light surface wear as would be expected due to its age and use, it is not excessive and the box displays beautifully. It appears that the bandbox was covered with a fine linen and then the paint applied over that.
Size is 8 1/2" x 10" x 5 1/2" high.
Circa, 1860-80.

The color is much more subtle than shows in the picture . . . This is really a fabulous piece of Folk Art not commonly found.  Outstanding and RARE!
