Pierced Tin Whale Oil Lantern

Complete and all original.  Just the way we like to find them.  Diamond and Star pierced top and star piercing on the bottom provide decorative elements.  The double whale oil burner and unusual blown glass font, fitted into a tin holder are original to the piece and the lantern still retains much of the original japanned finish.  The blown globe is clear.  What you are seeing in the photo above are the blower's marks in the globe.  The camera picks these up, but they are not really visible to the naked eye.  Surprisingly, there is virtually no rust on the piece.  This very special lantern would be a nice addition to any serious collection.  The lantern is 12-1/4" tall, not including the handle.  American, c. 1830-40.
