Folk Art Carved Trout
Presented here, a very fine Folk Art Carved and Painted Trout. The maker has signed the piece on the reverse . . ."Taken by H. B. Grayer June 22, 1881. I believe it would be safe to assume that Mr. Grayer was the fisherman as well as the carver and he produced this carving as a memento of his fortunate catch. His fortune is now our fortune as he was a skilled carver and knew his fish! The speckels that you see from tail fin to head are actually painted red dots outlined in black which does not show will in the picture but are a nice touch. The size is 22" long and 8-1/2" wide and much too big for MY frying pan!
