Folk Art Carved Ladle
Presented here, an artfully conceived and finely carved Folk Art Ladle with the initials S. M. carved into the handle which turns into an arm whose hand clutches the bowl of the ladle.
The snake which coils down the arm towards the bowl of the ladle eagerly anticipates the contents with its mouth open.  The body of the snake is gouge carved and the indentations are painted black. The condition of the ladle is very fine with only one tiny split in the bowl and a tiny tack stabilizes a crack where the loop of the handle meets the arm.  This is an old and very well done repair.  All in all, an excellent example of Folk Art from a very talented carver.  The ladle is 13-3/4" long and the bowl of the ladle is 2-3/4" in diameter.
