Chippendale Graduated 4 drawer Tiger Maple Chest with Outrageous Figure, c. 1780

Very finely figured Chippendale Figured Maple Chest with maple secondaries having a rectangular pine top measuring 19.75 inches wide by 43 inches long.

The case consists of four graduated thumb molded and scratch-beaded drawers raised on a tall shaped and molded bracket base with spurs.

Overall fine original condition, however the surface was refreshed sometime ago exposing the magnificent wood as it had an overcoat of Spanish Brown paint the Victorians were so fond of using covering the marvelous figured wood. Hardware is replaced, but appropriate to the period. Very fine proportions lend a certain elegance to this piece which stands 34-1/2" high . . . From New England and circa 1780.
