Sugar Nips White refined sugar (from the South) arrived in a paper wrapped cone shape and was broken with plierslike "cutters" before being ground to granules in a mortar. The rod extention was used to help break up the chunks. Beautifully made, with incised decoration, these were finished by a Whitesmith. The patina is excellent. Circa 1760-1820. A "Cut" above the ordinary. R06I17444 Questions? Ask the Ferret!
