18th Century Cast Brass 6 Candle Chandelier

Presented here, a fine 18th Century Cast Brass 6 Arm Chandelier.  This is truly a "rara avis", intricately designed  and much more intricate in assembly.  Each arm is made up of three pieces which have variance in dimensions as a result of hand finishing all of the brass castings.  Each piece of the six sets is marked with from one to six dots showing the original castings that match to make a set.  When assembled, theoretically, each set will fit into one of the slots formed by the top hanging assembly being threaded into the bottom ball and finial assembly.  Over the two hundred and fifty or so years of varying ownership and disassembly a few "adjustments" have been made to make pieces fit in other than in their intended location.

We can assume that one or more person did not know of the punched dot mating code and did some new fitting positions.  It is now assembled in close to the original intended groupings, but suggest no disassembly unless you need a challenge in your life and deal well with frustrations.

It appears to have been drilled for electrification but was not so used recently.  Each candle cup had wax residue in sequence of Red, Blue and White Candles.  In the bottom of each cup firmly embedded in the rough casting was the melted remains of six bee's wax stubs, all of which would indicate an extensive use of candles in the recent past.

This is a spectacular treasure that really needs to be seen in person to be fully appreciated.  Its origin is Continental, most likely Dutch and there is no question about its authenticity.  The entire lamp assembly is 14"high and 14" wide with a 21" hanging chain and cast brass ornate hanger for affixing to the ceiling.
