Wrought Iron "Scottish" Broiler

These wrought-iron easel forms are often called "Scottish" Broilers and date circa 1750.
Meat, fish, or bread was placed on the sloping front, resting on the bottom ledge and set facing the fire. The easel-back extension, in the shape of a fork with a gracefully twisted shaft allowed for adjustment to the source of the heat. While of very sturdy construction which would necessitate its original use, this broiler goes beyond its utility and becomes a thing of beauty in the hands of a very talented blacksmith. When not in use it would sit at the hearth as a decorative object. The condition is excellent and the size is 12"tall and 9" wide.
