 Redware Bank

Presented here, a Redware Bank with a drop dead gorgeous glaze.  They just don't get any better than this!  The condition is fabulous with only a tiny "flea bite" on the knop that is seen in the picture and mentioned for the sake of accuracy. When I first saw this I was uncertain as to whether I was looking at Redware or Yellow Ware.  It was too "tan" for Yellow Ware and not what I usually see as Redware but it was explained to me that depending on the amount of iron in the clay the color actually ranged from light tan to deep reddish brown and it was the mineral content in the clay that determined whether it indeed was Redware.  The glaze is definitely typical of that found on Redware.

By the very nature of the function of the bank, survivors are few as the bank usually had to be broken to retrieve the precious coins.  The bank is 4" in diameter on the bottom and @4-1/2" at the "bulge" and 4-3/4" high.
