 19th Century Round Pantry Boxes

*From the TOP, a 19th C.  tiny little round pantry box that is perfect for the top of the stack. It measures a mere 2-1/4 inches in diameter and is 1 inch high.  These tiny containers, both round and oval are known as pillboxes, although they were used for many items besides medicine.  The color is a Windsor Green that has blackened with age.  The condition is excellent with no apologies.

*THIRD we have a little pantry box in Mustard Paint.  This one is 5-1/4" in diameter on the bottom and 5-7/8" on the top. 2-3/4" high. Alternating lapped seam construction fastened with copper tacks.  This one is gorgeous!  Very nice dry surface, just the way we like them.

I never realized there were so many shades of blue and this is definitely blue, but when you look into the paint it appears blue green. The SEVENTH is straight lapped, fastened with iron tacks.  Condition is excellent and the paint is nice and dry, with no sheen.  The size is 9-3/4" in diameter and 4-1/2" high.

Lets take a look at the tops.  I'm happy to provide more pictures of the individual boxes.

*All are 19th Century Pantry Boxes in old, dry, first paint with one exception.  All are in absolutely excellent condition except as noted.
Any sheen you may see is the result of the flash.

*SECOND we have a box with quite a paint history, having been painted several times over the years. Pumpkin over green and possibly white or grey at one time.  Opposing laps fastened with copper tacks, Nice crusty surface. 3-1/2" diameter.

* FOURTH,  we have a 19th century Brick Red Pantry Box, 6-1/2" in  diameter and 3" high. It appears to have been used as a dresser box as one can still smell what reminds me of powder on the inside.  The sides are maple and the top and bottom are pine.  Straight lapped construction, fastened with copper tacks and wooden pegs. (There are a couple newer nails to replace pegs that have fallen out.) There is a teeny chip on the lap on the cover.

*SIXTH, we have a fine round 19th C. Pantry Box in the best Red Paint. The color is not as bright as it shows in the photo, but more like the box on the top of the stack.
Straight lapped construction, fastened with copper tacks and wooden pegs. The surface is nice and dry . . . just the way we like it and the condition is high outstanding.    Impressed into the top of the box is the name Thos. Annett  E. Jaffery, NH.  The box is 9-1/2" dia on the bottom, 9-3/4" dia. on the top and 5" high.

*Finally, on the BOTTOM of the stack is an exceptional Pantry Box in original Soldier Blue Paint.  Very sturdily built, it is straight lapped and fastened with copper tacks.  Wonderful, dry surface in first paint that is nicely oxidized.  Heavy walled construction.  It even SMELLS good!  Cinnamon, I think. Size is 9-5/8" in diameter and 5-1/4" high.  Condition is excellent. $1250.00
