 Indian Trade Axe

Presented here, a hand wrought Axe made for the Indian Trade.  The multi-grip handle, hand carved from "Tiger" Maple is an unusual but clever functional design.  Iron tacks added "fancy" decoration with much appeal to the trading Indian.  At the butt end of the blade, faint joint lines delineate the force welded plug that closed off the handle slot.

Circa 1775-1850.  The name of the Forger, L. J. Gurney is stamped into the blade.  This, a fine trade Axe of unique design, it is 18-1/2" long and in fine condition.
