 Jane Kirkpatrick, Scotland, 1837

This charming 1837 folk art sampler features an exuberant house with a lustrous salmon facade, vibrant sky blue roof, yellow door knocker detail and exquisite french paned windows.  This pictorial panel also includes salmon pots with yellow flowerettes, stylized layered trees and whimsical dogs with yellow collars.  Our sampler maker also included her name and date in blue above the house . . . Jane Kirkpatrick 1837 . . . adding to the luscious color palette throughout the sampler.  It also contains both alphabets and a numeric progression as well as many sets of family initials.

Worked in an early, band sampler format the vertical presentation will make for a stunning complement when displayed with an equally visual rectangular schoolgirl needlework.

Jane shows her skill with the needle by also working part of an alphabet in Queen Stitch, a technically intricate stitch to master. A strawberry border frames the piece at the top and at the bottom.  The sampler (10x19) is conserved on acid free board, mounted in an antique reeded frame with gold liner and is in vibrant overall condition.
