 Chalkware Apple Bank

Presented here, a Chalkware Apple Bank with a Roger Bacon provenance, from his collection and still retaining his label.  It is in overall good condition but then again Roger Bacon was not a purist about condition.  It was the piece that counted . . . the form, surface and rarity was more important to him than that the piece be in pristine condition. Still retains the "Roger Bacon" label from Skinnner Auction Co.

This little bank (3-1/4"high and 3-1/4" in diameter) is about the size of a real apple.  It is whimsical in that the apple is white with three bullseyes painted on it. I'm sure that whomever painted the bank had a reason for the paint pattern, but whatever it was has been lost in time.  I am reminded of the story of the archer William Tell who shot an apple off his son's head as a possible explanation for the bullseyes.  Just a thought.
