Bluebill Decoy Fine Bluebill from the Susquehanna Flats area of Chesapeake Bay. Carver unknown, circa 1900-20. Structurally sound solid body construction, in use re-paint and shot scars. Turned head and original weight all lend to the "character" of this bird. Here the carver looked at a block of wood and saw the bird inside. As with a lot of decoys from that area, not a lot of realistic carving or elaborate paint was necessary as the birds were so plentiful. While the carving is minimal the presence of the bird is strong. There is an air of serenity about the bird and forgive me for saying it, but it's just darned cute! 13 inches long.
