Butter Print with Paddle

Presented here is an absolutely wonderful Lollipop Butter Print and Butter Paddle carved from the same piece of wood.  Besides being a rare form that one seldom sees outside of museums, this piece has the most outrageous patina.  The surface is old and original and just screams of its age and usage.

The paddle is worn out of shape through years of use and the surface patina is uneaven, having been worn away in places through handling and usage.  We have not touched the surface but have left it in "as found" condition that bespeaks its age.  Certainly at least early 18th Century . . .  The print appears to be a cherry, which in and of itself is an unusual pattern in a Butter Print.

Made of walnut, the entire piece is 10-1/4" long and the print itself is @ 3-3/8" in diameter.  Probably of Pennsylvania origin.  A most useful implement, it is surprising that more of these were not made.  No problem about saying "Very Rare" about this piece . . . a stellar addition to any serious collection or just a wonderful stand alone piece that is a true "antique" and shows its age beautifully.
