Safari Lamp

Presented here, a quite RARE piece of early lighting.  This spring loaded candle lamp, called a "Safari Lamp" was made to be very compact and fold up into itself as seen in the picture on the left.  When in use, the door would be opened and the candle could be lit from the top and the holder that held the candle extended as shown in the picture below.
The lamp could then be held by the heavy gauge wire handles that previously had been folded back against the case or hung by the hooks found on the interior of the lid.  The 6" case is nickle plated brass and the lens is mica.  While the case retains most of its original nickle finish, the camera is picking up the brass color more than is evident to the human eye.  This, a handy little lighting device not commonly found and a nice addition to any serious collection of early lighting.
