Brass Manhattan Brass Company Student Lamp with Hobnail Shade
This student lamp was made by the well-known Manhattan Brass Company and bears the patent dates of 1876, 77 and 78. This company was very broadly accepted in the market place including households, businesses, schools, and others such as Tiffany Studios who purchased the Manhattan brass lamps and then added surface design features, chemical patinae, and used the resultant product for their superb art glass shades, This is obviously a credit to the high quality of the Manhattan product line.

The lamp, shown here is an all brass one electrified circa the 1930,s. Its condition is excellent. The original oil font is a relatively rare molded glass one with the molded marking "Perfection Student Lamp Patent Nov.22,81" ("Perfection" being a name used by Manhattan). The lampshade is a 20th century milk glass "hob nail" it has a triangular chip on the bottom edge which is essentially hidden by the brass ring shade holder.
