Wrought Iron Heart Trivet
This small iron Heart Trivet is not just another cast iron "pretty face".  It is, in truth, a hand wrought work of art with much thought and skill going into its design and creation.  Dating from the 18th Century, it is made up of two forged pieces, each tapered to a point and then forge welded together to form the center piece of the heart.  Then the two halves were curved into the heart shape and forge welded at the  bottom part of the heart.  Next, a 90 degree bend formed the first leg of the heart.  The remaining two legs were then made in identical design, including chamfered edges on the inside of both legs.  They appear to have been made from two pieces which "straddle" the heart frame.  They are about 1/8" plus wider than the frame at the inner side and then gracefully taper to about 8/16" x 3/8" at the bottom. Size is 5"long x 3-1/2" wide at the top.

The work is so well done it is hard to tell exactly how it was accomplished.  The effect is very artful and one has to believe this heart trivet was the result of a very strong love by the creator for some lucky young lady.  The patina is as excellent as the condition of the piece.  A superb collection addition to say the least.
