Painted Tin Sconces
Presented here, a very RARE pair of American Painted Tin Wall Sconces. These, on an Asphaltum or "Japanned" background that has considerably darkened with age. The painted decoration is comprised of floral sprays of buds and leaves. The sconces are 8" high and 2" wide.
Both the tops and the bottoms are crimped tin and the sconces are formed from a single piece of tin with the side edge folded back onto the back.

You'll note in the picture that the sconces appear to be of different heights, but this is not the case. There is a slight "bend" in the bottom of one that causes it to sit higher when placed on a flat surface (as when photographed) and this would not be the case when hanging on the wall. The painting, while very simple is very sweet. These are a rarity in the world of American Painted Tin . . . a must for the discerning collector and a wonderful accent to a country setting.
