Scrimshaw Thread Holder

This Sailor made Scrimshaw is a "Best" on the "Good, Better, Best" Scale. Highly detailed superb design and painstaking workmanship characterize this piece with it's wonderful carving and whalebone finials.

A "labor of love" defined in the beautifully carved inscription "Ellen Murdock - August 1st 1846". It is in very fine condition and still usable 161 years later.  Yes, it is a thread spool holder. 7-1/4" high.
