19th C. Scrimshaw Coconut Dipper

Exceptional Scrimshaw Coconut Dipper, circa mid 1800's. This dipper is unusually well designed and executed by a very experienced scrimshander's hand. The heart fastener and other fitments are whale ivory and the exotic wood of the handle appears to be of the Rosewood family. The condition of the dipper is high outstanding. A rare find and an important addition to any serious scrimshaw collection. The dipper measures 15" long to the extended ring handle and the bowl of the coconut is 4-3/4" high.
